The Macular Disease Foundation of Australia (MDFA) is the national peak body representing the macular disease community. Our four pillars of work include: prevention and early detection, supporting the community to live optimally with macular conditions, systemic advocacy and research. There are an estimated 1.4m Australians with some evidence of age-related macular degeneration, which is the most common macular disease.
Volunteer to change lives. Yours included. ~ This volunteer opportunity will help to assist maintenance with general maintenance tasks and light garden duties around the facility. The role would suit someone with general handyman knowledge, using basic hand tools and basic painting skills. #UnitingCareQLD
Meet and greet our visitors to provide a great experience inside the Butterfly House. Show them butterflies laying eggs, feeding, mating & help educate our visitors about the Butterfly life cycle & important plants etc.
Greet & introduce our guests to the wonders of butterflies and their amazing life cycle. Presentation and ability to communicate with a broad audience are important. You will provide groups of visitors a 15-20 minute educational tour on the butterfly life cycle and other interesting facts. This is done in front of live displays to prompt you. Training is provided on-the-job. Palm cards OK. Times include Sundays and/or Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Help maintain the Bribie Island Butterfly House, laboratory building and nursery areas. Work includes general maintenance on irrigation, hydroponics, electrical, some machinery, and keeping the water features operational. Some experience preferred in mechanical, irrigation, electrical or general maintenance. Good general handyperson taking pride in keeping the Butterfly House running smoothly. Training in Butterfly House maintenance work is provided.
Help grow and maintain butterfly-attracting plants for sale at the Butterfly House, and host plants required for egg-laying, caterpillar food and nectar. Help with the hydroponic systems to grow caterpillar food. Potting, propagation, weeding, pruning and watering the established nursery areas. Maintain tidy facility. Training is provided.

Help support PCYC’s Youth Development Programs team and students with a general range of mentoring and administrative tasks. If you are able to build rapport and engage with a diverse range of young people or have experience working in culturally diverse environments we want you. Looking for friendly and outgoing personalities with the ability to problem solve and work both as a team and autonomously. Suitable for Centrelink Volunteers and Work Experience.
