Logo for Avalon Centre Inc

The Avalon Homes for the Homeless initiative was set up 5 years ago to provide housing for the homeless. Based on the Housing First model, our goal is to offer a home first and then provide ongoing tailored support. We aim to provide stability, support, and security to empower people to take control of their own lives. So far, we have 13 homes, consisting mainly of 2-bedroomed flats in Dandenong. There are a variety of people in our homes including single mothers with 2-3 children a young couple, and a single man. Each home has a 'supporter' whose role involves developing a trusting relationship with the renters involved and offering support where needed. They can ascertain what is needed by the tenants a access this through the wide Avalon Network. )This may include help with budgeting, cooking, job searching, shopping, and much more). i This role would suit someone who has experience with 'lived' experience or who has had experience with others who have dealt with challenges in their lives. Also, for someone who has a desire to support and make a difference to someone who is trying to get back on their feet and regain control of their lives. Please note that we do not require experienced 'counsellors' etc. just people who care and want to make a difference. If you feel that you have the skills/life experience to support someone who is trying to get their lives back on track and who has experienced homelessness, please get in touch and discuss the role further with us.
