he Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is owned and operated by Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital.

Our aim is to bring awareness to the importance of respecting our natural world alongside the community, by creating experiences that enable visitors to leave feeling fulfilled and having a newfound enjoyment of what Australia’s natural flora and fauna have to offer.

“Our vision is to develop the Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary into a world class bio park with a focus on Australian Wildlife through conservation, education, indigenous engagement and ecotourism initiatives”.

We are excited to establish a volunteer program at the Sanctuary.

The sanctuary volunteer will be responsible for:

• Assisting staff with the preparation of food according to dietary requirements and Standards of Practice (SOP’s).

• Cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures as per the SOP’s.

• Observe and report any changes in animal behaviors or health to the appropriate staff.

• Assist staff with animal enrichment.

• Maintain accurate records of animal care, feeding schedules, and health observations.

• Work closely with sanctuary staff to provide comprehensive care for the animals.

• Participate in training sessions to improve animal care skills and knowledge.

Selection Criteria: • Over 18 years • Offer a minimum 6-month commitment to the program • Be willing to work outdoors in all-weather / seasons • Able to perform moderate physical activities • Be comfortable being around animals. • Be willing to wear the volunteer uniform
