My Community Legal Inc. (MCL) is one of two accredited Community Legal Centres in Gold Coast City. MCL is a national, state and local award-winning charity based on leveraging pro bono publico lawyers, tertiary students and other volunteers. MCL provides high quality legal and social support services to those in need. MCL provides free legal advice within civil, family and criminal law areas.

This role is currently part time and has responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of the Robina headquarters and Southport outreach services, management of evening advice sessions, and support in operational matters. The Gold Coast Coordinator will be assisted by the Principal Solicitor and Southport Coordinator in the management of My Community Legal’s operations.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision and support to the administrative team on a daily basis.
  • Supervision for university internships ensuring quality learning and development.
  • Take escalation calls and coordinate with other relevant parties to de-escalate the calls when needed.
  • Manage workload capacity to ensure services are provided in a timely manner on Advice Nights.
  • Support the organisation to meet its objectives and support other teams as or when required.
  • Management of operational teams such as; Practitioner and Student Relations (Volunteering HR) , Marketing, Community Engagement and Accreditation.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, induction and training of volunteers ensuring that clear performance expectations are set on commencement.
  • Supporting the volunteers who update, monitor and coordinate the volunteer roster to ensure enough team members work onsite and services can be delivered as required.
  • Liaising with stakeholders such as the local community, educational institutions, community organisations & associations, government, and private organisations.
  • Skill management ensuring new staff have the skills and resources to meet MCL’s performance expectations and also align with the organisation’s culture. Respond to feedback from other staff in relation to Helpline performance.
  • Ensure the team is supported with appropriate debriefing and professional supervision support.
  • Oversee work quality and monitor team performance and ensure issues relating to performance or conduct are addressed promptly in line with MCL policies and procedures and are documented accordingly.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are up-to-date to maintain our accredited state.
  • Coordinate workflows and workloads to ensure the smooth running of the team and appropriate utilisation of people.
  • Maintenance of SharePoint Site such as updating information sections, blogs and lists.
  • Ensure team members have up-to-date information and are aware of changes to legal information or requirements affecting the service.
  • Collect and interpret statistics in relation to the assessment of overall service delivery.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture for staff and volunteers which is professional, productive and supportive and consistent with the MCL values.
  • Monthly Board Meetings.
  • Weekly Operational Meetings.
  • Any other tasks as requested by the Principle or Board.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

  • Well-developed and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Time and project management.
  • High level of administrative, organisational and time management skills including the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding and possess the ability to address the discrimination and harassment issues within the workplace.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • High level of demonstrated experience with MS SharePoint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, database programs (CLASS) and office equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to learn how to use other database programs.
  • General knowledge and understanding of legal and social issues.

REMUNERATION Wage, Superannuation and Benefits will be according to Award.

HOURS The position is currently part-time. Our Office hours are 9am - 3pm, the structure of your office hours is negotiable and will be discussed. Robina Advice Session (Required); 3pm-9.00pm Monthly Board Meeting (Required): 2 hours Weekly Operations Meeting (Required): 1 hour
