The General Board Member will support the vision, values and objectives of the charity and work closely with other committee members to support the overall direction, effectiveness and accountability of the charity.

We are particularly interested with people who have skills in:

  • Human Resources and or Industrial Relations
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Fundraising, grant management and donor engagement
  • Not for Profit experience

These are desirable, but not essential, to this role.

This is an unpaid-volunteer position.

About Us Little Things for Tiny Tots distributes new and pre-loved essential baby items to WA families in need. We provide a box of “little things” to assist families to care for their newborn with items such as clothing, blankets, nappies, wipes, toys and books. Our volunteers collect and package donations into New Baby Boxes which are distributed via existing support services and government agencies.

Role responsibilities  As a board member, you will be responsible for:

  • Understanding the organisation and upholding its vision, mission and values.
  • Governing and overseeing the organisation’s operational and financial performance.
  • Providing advice, opinions and independent judgement in making informed decisions.
  • Strategic and business planning.
  • Overseeing risk management.
  • Recruiting, overseeing and supporting paid staff and volunteers within the organisation.
  • Ensuring adherence with legislation and regulatory requirements.

Role requirements Board meetings are held every second month on Thursday evenings.

Board meetings go for 2-hours every second month and require 1-2 hours of pre-work.

In addition to Board Meetings, the role requires approximately four (4) hours a week in the form of:

  • responding regularly to emails including out-of-session approvals;
  • actioning any tasks identified in meetings;·
  • attending AGM and strategy sessions;
  • leading or working on a specific project / subcommittee;
  • working with the other committee members to ensure effective governance;
  • being involved in the growth of the charity.

About You

  • Genuine passion and interest in the not-for-profit sector and Little Things for Tiny Tots.
  • Able to act with reasonable care and diligence, and handle information with confidentiality.
  • Able to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work with basic technology, cloud based services and online platforms.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) and highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate, liaise and resolve problems.
  • Based in WA is preferable (so the Board member can understand state legislation, regulations, NFP funders etc) and have local networks to utilise.
  • No conviction of any offences or be disqualified from being a Director; and
  • No material conflict of interest with Little Things for Tiny Tots.
  • Experience in HR, IR, Marketing, Fundraising and or Not For Profit experience is highly desirable.

Time Commitment  We are looking for people who can commit to a minimum 12 month term and who have adequate time to dedicate to this role.
