The Aged Care Volunteer Visiting Scheme (ACVVS), funded by the Australian Government, connects volunteers with an older person who is feeling lonely and/or socially isolated, to build friendships and break those feelings of loneliness.

About: You will spend time with someone in your local community who may be lonely or socially isolated to assist them to a have regular visitor on a weekly or fortnightly basis for about an hour’s duration. We are seeking welcoming individuals who can sit and have a chat, reminisce and talk about topics of interest with elderly people in their own homes. Our clients enjoy the company of caring, reliable, and empathetic volunteers with good communication skills.

Our Client:

Female in her 60’s living at home with her husband is looking to expand her social network. This individual lives in Torquay and is feeling lonely. Bring joy, engage in conversations, and provide meaningful companionship. With a passion for card and board games, this individual is looking for someone keen to take on the challenge and is ready to teach you game skills. Your visits will help to maintain her community links and reach her goals. With some fun and laughter along the way! In order to support this individual, it is important that you are aware that no mobile phone/smart devices can enter her home as they are electrically sensitive. They also possess an auditory processing disorder which can make it difficult to understand people, so clear communication must be used.

  • Receive ongoing support and training throughout your journey, including a fully funded NDIS worker screening check.

About you:

  • Live in and around Torquay VIC 3228 or happy to travel.
  • Possess clear communication skills
  • Do not own or spend regular time with cats – individual is allergic.
  • Compassionate, patient and an excellent listener
  • Have the ability to work independently.
  • Passionate about giving back to your community

Time Commitment:

1-2 hour per fortnight, Monday-Friday, between 9:00-17:00.
