English Conversation Group Facilitator

We are looking for volunteers who possess a natural ability to create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. This is not a formal teaching environment, so no preparation is required. The groups’ aim is to activate conversation on a broad range of everyday subjects. Skills Required for the Position:
- Natural and Friendly Conversational Skills: Engage participants in meaningful dialogue with ease and warmth.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Respect and appreciate diverse cultural backgrounds to create an inclusive environment.
- Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Foster connections and build rapport with participants from various walks of life.
- Patient Approach with Active Listening Skills: Listen attentively and patiently guide participants through their language learning journey.
- Commitment to Regular Attendance: Demonstrate reliability and dedication by attending sessions regularly.
Duties/Tasks:
- Welcome and Introductions: Greet attendees warmly upon arrival and facilitate introductions to create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Assist with Sign-In: Help attendees sign in each week to ensure accurate attendance records.
- Co-Facilitate Sessions: Work alongside staff or other volunteers to provide a friendly and supportive environment for individuals to practice and improve their English speaking skills.
- Follow Prepared Materials: Utilise prepared topical PowerPoint slides for weekly themes to guide discussions and activities effectively.
- Liaison with Librarian: Communicate effectively with the Librarian to address any challenges that may arise during sessions, ensuring smooth operation and participant satisfaction.
Dress code:
- Uniforms are not provided; however a neat, smart standard of dress is required.
- A volunteer badge will be provided and is required to be worn throughout the session
