How you’ll fit into the bigger picture The Community Wellbeing (CWB) team is our frontline service responsible for providing services, information, advocacy, and referral to anyone who walks through our front door. We place community at the heart of our work and aim to support and empower people who are experiencing hardship and barriers to living a full life.

Volunteer client support workers are an integral part of the CWB team. As a volunteer client support worker, your role will be to engage in initial assessments, consult with your supervisor and provide appropriate advocacy, support, information, and referral. We are a safe and supportive team; we welcome volunteers with different levels of experience and knowledge, provide extensive training and will work with you at your pace and readiness to engage in the role.

‘Your Day-to-Day Duties’ • Contributing to supportive and safe environment for staff, students, volunteers, and our community. • Responding to people’s enquiries by phone or in person, engaging in assessment, providing support, advocacy and referral to ensure people have access to appropriate and ongoing services. • Implementing SECL policy and procedure in your work, including working in a professional manner and always maintaining confidentiality and good boundaries • Working openly and collaboratively with the CWB and other SECL teams and engaging in consultation and supervision.

‘Does this sound like you?’ (Key Selection Criteria) • Demonstrated ability to embrace diversity and to treat every person with dignity, compassion, and respect regardless of socio-economic status, ability, age, gender, race, religion, or sexuality. • Clear and succinct written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate client information and adapt your communication to the requirements of our diverse community. • A strong commitment to advocacy and empowering people to make independent and informed choices. • Interested in building relevant skills and knowledge and embedding contemporary practice, policy and procedure into your work. • A good understanding of Australian systems and services and the causes of disadvantage. • Previous volunteer or work experience is desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safety Screening checks prior to commencement of employment including a national police record check and valid Working with Children Check. Candidates will need to provide at least two professional references, provide a digital copy of valid COVID-19 vaccination certificates, and provide proof of your right to work in Australia.

Successful applicants will be required to complete the accredited Community Support Worker Course (CHCCCS004 – Assess Co-existing Needs) or have Recognised Prior Learning in an equivalent course. The CHCCCS004 course occurs one day per week over 6 weeks and is at no cost to the volunteer.
