Tour Guide Host - National Trust's Portable Iron Houses

Volunteers represent the NTAV and Portable Iron Houses in a positive and helpful way by providing visitors an enjoyable and informative experience. Each of the three houses are unique and have different stories to tell. Visitors can be self-guided, use the information provided on the walls or ask questions of the volunteers

Hours required per month : 3 hours on the first Sunday of the month

Volunteer activities could include: Contribute as a National Trust volunteer towards achieving our mission through participation as a Volunteer. Inspire the community to appreciate, conserve and celebrate its built, natural and cultural heritage. Answer questions from the public, escalating to property manager if required.

Knowledge and Skills required :
Light duties to prepare the Portable Iron houses for Visitors Light Dusting of furniture and objects. Encourage NTAV membership Interact with visitors- answering questions and chatting about the history of these rare houses Responsible for counting and managing tour group during emergency – getting to evacuation point. Comply with Health and Safety requirements.

Volunteer Benefits include ; Face to face interaction. Make new friends with like minded people. Contribute to preserving Melbourne history/heritage.

Training and skill development in: National Trust general induction for all volunteers.
Site Induction by Property Manager. Other training as determined by the Property Manager. Provision of detailed Guide notes, relevant research and information.

You will be one of a team of experienced volunteers. The National Trust is a not for profit organisation that aims to conserve Australia’s history and heritage for present and future generations. Volunteers can be provided with a letter of reference.

As part of the application process, we will ask you to agree to register as a National Trust Volunteer. Orientation and training are provided. Volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children’s Card (free for volunteers).
