Better Health Network

Logo for Better Health Network

We are seeking a special person to bring joy to the lives of three people living with dementia. Become a Volunteer Community Visitor and make a real difference.

Almost 500,000 Australians are now living with dementia. Better Health Network (BHN) supports older people experiencing social isolation and loneliness through the Meaningful Connections Program. Volunteers are matched with older people living in aged care facilities, for the purpose of providing meaningful social connection and companionship.

Better Health Network (BHN) is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community.

We are currently seeking the help of a special person who would be willing to make short, regular visits to a home in Sandringham. Once a fortnight, you would spend approximately 20 minutes each with three lovely ladies, all living with dementia.

This role would suit someone who enjoys being creative in the way they connect with others and who is motivated to help improve the wellbeing of older people.

Dementia specific training and support will be provided.

Meet our older friends . . .

Patricia likes knitting, cooking, music and reading. She would benefit from going for a walk and having a coffee and some one on one attention.

Anna enjoys listening to the radio, looking at photos and interacting with her collection of dolls. As well as English, Anna can also speak Latvian and German.

May is no longer able to speak but has a love of nail polish, make up and perfume. She would benefit from a sensory box to engage all of her senses. May also enjoys spending time in the garden.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer visitor to our wonderful older friends, we would love to hear from you.

All new Volunteers must undergo a Police Check and Working With Children’s Check and be able to commit to the role for 12 months.

At BHN, we value our volunteers and are passionate about diversity. We encourage applications from all backgrounds.
