The program

The Pillowcase Program is a school-based disaster preparedness program designed to help students aged 8-10 (years 3 to 4) build their knowledge and capacity in disaster preparedness.

We are seeing emergencies occur more frequently and with more severity. This project is part of the broader, emergency preparedness, response and recovery programs of Australian Red Cross.

The opportunity

Becoming a Pillowcase Program Presenter Volunteer means you would be part of a network of volunteers who run one-hour sessions in schools where children learn about disaster preparedness through an interactive activity centred around decorating a pillowcase.

The impact

Emergencies can happen at any time. They can be as large as a flood or fire, or as personal as a death in the family. Research shows that better emergency preparation makes it easier for individuals, families and the community to recover. This is a great opportunity to have an impact in YOUR community.

Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.
