About the Program The Garden Volunteer's role is to maintain the vegetable and flower gardens and liaise and communicate with the Healthy Eating Facilitator and Centre Coordinator regarding appropriate vegetables for the garden that can be used back in the café. The tasks involved include planting, weeding, watering, mowing lawns, and general garden maintenance and upkeep.

Key Tasks

  • Contribute as part of the team to maintain the garden
  • Monitoring the health of the plants
  • Keep green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter.
  • Report all incidents, hazards, near misses and accidents as soon as reasonably practicable.

Skills/Knowledge/Personal Qualities

  • Knowledge of gardening techniques
  • Knowledge of plant and flower care techniques
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and manage time
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to relate to a diverse range of people
  • Physically able to fulfil the role.

Time Commitment

Volunteer commitment is between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm for a maximum of 4 hours per day, as agreed during weekdays.

Special Requirements

Must possess and provide a Department of Human Services (DHS) clearance (Aged Care Sector) prior to offer. (This can be organised for you).
