The Role

We are seeking a female volunteer to visit a female recipient in the Caboolture area.

Some older people don’t have quality contact with friends or relatives. They might feel isolated from their cultures or others.

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) connects them with volunteers like you who, amongst other things, can:

  • Sit and chat about a wide variety of things of interest to that person
  • Watch a favourite television program with them
  • Work with them on a hobby
  • Play board games
  • Walk with them around the gardens
  • Read to them or listen to music with them
  • Help them write a letter
  • Be a good friend who visits regularly.

Skills & Qualities

  • Interests or hobbies that can be shared with an older person
  • Strong social, relationship-building and conversational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport effectively
  • The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
  • A patient, friendly and mature attitude that includes respect, care and courtesy towards others
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain professional boundaries

Expectations - Mandatory

  • Volunteer Mandatory Training – must complete prior to starting first volunteer shift (online and face to face training modules)
  • National Police Certificate – undergo a national police check and we will coordinate and pay for this to be processed
  • Current Covid-19 vaccination evidence

Expectations - Essential

  • Availability – one hour per week. Days and times are negotiable.
  • Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis
  • Confidentiality & Professional Boundaries– this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Statement of Agreement
  • Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can verify your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader, Doctor or other Professional)

We have recipients waiting for someone to start visiting them on a regular basis.
