The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne).

Role Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one driving instruction to learners of all backgrounds with using MIC company car at Ringwood. (MIC will provide orientation to the volunteers and learners)
• Assist learners in building confidence on the road and mastering safe driving techniques.
• Offer constructive feedback and guidance to help learners improve their driving abilities.

Requirements:

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Patience and empathy for learners navigating the challenges of driving.
• Police Check.

About MIC Migrant Information Centre The Migrant Information Centre supports culturally and linguistically diverse people and their families, older people, people with disabilities and their carers, community groups and service providers in the Eastern Region of Melbourne to enhance their settlement and access to services and strengthen their participation within the community.

The Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne) (MIC) operates in the Eastern Region of Melbourne. The region covers the Local Government Areas of Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Maroondah, Monash, Whitehorse and Yarra Ranges.

Our Volunteer Programs We have a range of programs that will put your skills and valuable volunteer time to good use.

• Visiting older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds living at home or in aged care facilities. You will have the opportunity to reduce the social isolation of older frail people.
• Transport Assistance to help refugees to attend appointments using public transport or a car. Volunteers are reimbursed for travel expenses.
• Homework Support Programs and Tutoring to assist children and young people with their homework and studies and how to use computers.
• Practical Support for individuals and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds to build their confidence and life skills for living in Australia.
• On-road driving practice in the MIC’s dual break car. Our Driving Mentoring Program enables refugees to gain on-road practical driving experience to complement the driving lessons they receive from registered driving instructors.
• Office work to assist us with our filing, data entry, mailing and other duties.
• Program Support to assist us to facilitate playgroups, excursions and holiday programs.
• Social Support for individuals with disabilities under 64 years and/or their carers to participate in everyday activities, maintain or rebuild their confidence, improve their social connectedness and emotional wellbeing, stay healthy and active.
