Key Responsibilities:

Assessing and sorting donations by screening inbound items: • Examining donated items to determine whether their condition is fit for use. • Grouping items based on their condition/category and packaging it appropriately.

Processing stock, undertaking the following duties: • Packing and moving items into storage for future distribution. • Processing waste and unsuitable items for disposal or recycling.

Complying to organisational policies and procedures, through: • Adhering to Work Health & Safety procedures, as well as other mandatory society policies. • Actively promoting and advocating for a safe and inclusive workspace, through timely reporting and personal conduct.

Stock Management • Work with the Stock Management Team - Team Leader, to create and manage a material aid storage and distribution system at Shakespeare Hall, that meets the needs of the broader organisation and our companions. • Maintaining an inventory list, reporting stock shortages or over-accumulation where applicable.

Skills and Knowledge • A general interest in sorting, organising, and stock control. • The ability to work productively both individually with supervision, as well as collaboratively within a small-team environment. • An alignment with and empathy for people from all community sectors.

Work Health and Safety Requirements • Covered /practical, shoes to be worn whilst onsite. • Ability to bend, twist, lift, lower and carry <15kg in a safe manner consistent with best-practice manual handling principles. • Safe use of ladders and trolleys (pushing and pulling movements). • If driving a Society vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required, and a copy provided to the Volunteer Service Team. • Personal protective equipment will be provided and is to be used in line with safety requirements. Gloves must be worn when sorting donations • Pre-existing injuries that a volunteer may suspect could impede them or be further exacerbated must be reported prior to being assigned to the team. Volunteers must abide by an injury management plan if applicable.
