Puddle Jumpers Inc
May include but are not limited to the following:
- Be aware of and follow government regulations regarding kitchen operation and food handling
- Assist in menu planning prior to camp
- Develop an understanding of the safe operation of all kitchen equipment.
- Supervision of Kitchen hand/s.
- Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and correct methods of food storage are followed.
- Provide input to the Puddle Jumpers staff in the menu planning based on feedback from the staff and campers.
- Provide opportunities for the kitchen hand/s to expand their skills.
- Assist the Camp Officer in outlining rules for kitchen usage by other staff.
- Prepare all meals or direct their preparation including desserts.
- Educate all kitchen staff in the safe and appropriate operation of kitchen equipment and use of utensils.
- Arrange for the correct disposal or return of unopened food at the end of camp.
- Set a positive tone for the staff and campers in relation to the kitchen and meal times.
- Oversee the serving of meals/snacks.
- To be aware of and commit to understanding various special diets and cultures and how to support this in your role.
- Respect confidentiality at all times, always refer any concerns to the Camp Managers.
- Demonstrate high standards of personal hygiene.
- Implement the Puddle Jumpers Inc. Food Handling Procedures and report any requirements to the camp officer as appropriate.

- Ability to work with other people in a supportive, co-operative fashion.
- Effective communication skills to deal effectively with people at all levels.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Supervisory skills that will enable him/her to assume some responsibility for the daily operation of the kitchen.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people
- Understanding and commitment to the Puddle Jumpers ethos.
Knowledge: (or willing to learn)
- Principles, procedures and equipment used in storage, care, preparation, cooking and dispensing of food in large quantities
- Kitchen sanitation and safety measures used in the operation cleaning and care of utensils, equipment and work areas.
- Understanding of Puddle Jumpers Inc. policies and procedures.
Experience: (Desirable although NOT essential)
- Experience in preparation of meals for large groups.
- A working knowledge of food ordering, meal planning, budgeting and kitchen procedures.
- Awareness about special dietary requirements.
- Understanding of Health and Safety issues in particular with children, young people, and families.
- Experience in supervising the operation of a kitchen and its staff.
Qualifications: (Desirable although NOT essential) No formal qualifications required
Training Required: (Or willingness to undergo training)
- Basic Food Hygiene / Handling.
- Child Safe Environments Certificate
- Menu planning and meal preparation for large groups.
