SES volunteers assist the community during natural hazards such as floods, storms, cyclones, and earthquakes, and assist with land searches, vertical rescue, communications, and fire ground support. Communications & Operations Support provide essential communication and response to safety and emergency situations and may undertake the following tasks:·

  • Operate radio and telecommunications equipment, including field and base station radio·
  • Coordinate emergency response with operational staff and stakeholders such as DFES and WAPOL·
  • Broadcast weather, local navigational and situational information to emergency services responders·
  • Ensure operations and communications equipment is well maintained· 
  • Adapt to changing circumstances during an emergency
