Volunteer Business and Project Mentors - TO LEAP Program 2024

In this role as a Volunteer Business Mentor or Project Mentor you will support previous and/or current public housing residents who are looking for new opportunities and/or pathways into self employment to get started on business or social enterprise or an idea for a community project.

Use your skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of these people and who are looking to lead change in their community through community projects and through businesses. As part of this program you’ll learn and apply valuable mentoring and leadership skills to support and develop your own career as well.

Over 3 months of mentoring, you will be help participants through different stages of planning and setting up a business or a community project. Some examples of areas where you will be providing active guidance around are:

Administration & Planning Skills: Mentoring participants in developing project plans and task prioritization to ensure efficient execution of their business or community project. Sales & Marketing: Providing guidance on understanding customer segments, creating marketing plans, prototyping products/services, and pitching ideas effectively. Funding: Offering support with grant applications and exploring various avenues for securing funding for the business or project. Finance & Legal: Assisting participants in understanding financial aspects such as cost, pricing, revenue streams, and providing insights into legal considerations and contracts Technology: Advising on the use of web tools, developing a web presence, and utilizing social media to enhance the visibility and reach of the business or project.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM As part of this program you will need to:

  • Allocate 10 hrs a month for mentoring (approx 2,5 hrs a week)
  • Commit to attending 7 training workshops to build mentoring skills AND to get to know the participants
  • Mentor for 3 months from mid May 2024 - August 2024

Venue for events will be in North Melbourne.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Thriving Opportunity for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Action and Projects (TO-LEAP) program empowers residents in North Melbourne and Flemington to lead change in their community using the power of local leadership, enterprise and action. It is a fully subsidised program funded by the Department of Family Fairness and Housing aimed at encouraging people to build enterprise skills and to make a difference in their community.
