The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre (CNC).

Expressions of interest are invited from committed skilled individuals who would like to make a difference to their community.  Join the Board of a growing, local not-for-profit organisation that builds social connection, and works to enhance the wellbeing of the Canterbury and surrounding communities. 

The specific competencies and experience we are looking for are:             

  • Finance experience within an organisation operating in the Neighbourhood House sector or experience in Community Engagement or Community Service sector.
  • Expertise in financial management and accounting for a not-for-profit organisation. 
  • Ideally a CPA or CA with 10 years plus work experience.

KEY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Strategic leader and key member of the Board to maintain a sustainable operating model as defined by the board working closely with the Centre Manager. 
  • Support the Centre Manager in establishing the annual budget for the organisation and monitor the progress compared to budget and service delivery performance measures. 
  • Attend monthly Board Meetings (on the third Tuesday of the month).    Additional hours per month will be required for sub-committee meetings, and quarterly and annual reporting responsibilities.
  • Actively participate in sub-committees such as Finance & Risk, Strategic Planning as required.  

  About the Board: The Board of Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Organisation and for delivering accountable financial performance in accordance with the Organisation's vision, mission, and objectives, along with key Service Agreements and funding KPI’s.   The Board is committed to governing Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre for the benefit of all who access our activities and services. Board Members have:

  • commitment to work for the greater good of Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre and the community.
  • knowledge, expertise and influence relevant to the Neighbourhood House and/or Community Engagement sector.
  • ability to assist the organisation to meet its strategic goals and objectives.

Board members will:

  • invest their time to prepare for and attend monthly board meetings, and other meetings as needed, and learn about the organisation
  • contribute to discussions, working cooperatively and communicating effectively
  • be accountable and make informed decisions
  • monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Canterbury Neighbourhood Centre
  • maintain knowledge of CNC and the Neighbourhood House sector and personal commitment to its goals and objectives

All Board members are required to complete a criminal record check and working with children check.
