Heidelberg - Mentor/tutors for students of refugee backgrounds

Mercy Works Ltd

Logo for Mercy Works Ltd

This important role is different in each school depending on the skills and interests of the volunteer and the needs of the students of refugee backgrounds. Some schools need an 'extra adult' in the classroom, to sit with a small group or one student during class, explaining terms and requirements, or supporting students with their literacy/numeracy. Some volunteers support in special situations such as in the library, with the Gardening group or at Breakfast Club. Whatever role is negotiated between you and the school, you can be sure that your contribution will make a big difference in the lives of students.

Mercy Connect volunteers usually work with students for approximately two hours per week during school terms. Experience working in an educational setting is not essential as you will receive initial training and then on-going training and support. A current Working with Children Check and Police Check or VIT registration is required to volunteer with this project.
