SES volunteers assist the community during natural hazards such as floods, storms, cyclones, and earthquakes, and assist with land searches, vertical rescue, communications, and fire ground support. Communications & Operations Support provide essential communication and response to emergency situations and may undertake the following tasks:

  • Operate radio and telecommunications equipment, including field and base station radios.
  • Broadcast weather, local navigational and situational information to emergency services responders.
  • Ensure operations and communications equipment is well maintained.
  • Assist with the coordination of emergency response with operational staff and stakeholders such as DFES and Police.
  • Assistance in the operations room, proficiency in computers is required.
  • Creating and maintaining visual operations boards.
  • Map locations of requests for assistance.
  • Information management.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances during an emergency.
