Job Description

Sunshine Salvos serves the needs of one of the most disadvantaged communities in Victoria. With respect to its demographic status, Sunshine is a lower-income, culturally-diverse and traditionally working-class suburb. Geographically-speaking, Sunshine Salvos also finds itself stretched to serve the needs of the inner-west suburbs of Braybrook, Maidstone, West Footscray, & Footscray. There are a number of mission-expressions that Sunshine Salvos partners within the Sunshine community: they include TSA Western Metro housing (previously known as SASHS), Youth Housing (TSAY), Community Care Sunshine, James Barker House and Salvos Stores.

The Corps Receptionist is key in the smooth running of our centre, providing the first point of contact and initial support for our visitors. The role brings a variety of reception activities such as welcoming clients and answering calls, as well as some administrative support to the team. This role is ideal for someone who loves to make a great first impression for visitors and callers, but also loves creating order and refining processes. Receptionists are highly valued team members as they are the face of Sunshine Salvos

Key responsibilities:

Bring your dynamic organisational skills to respond to incoming calls, emails and greeting of visitors, whilst also using those quieter times to do data entry, preparing documents, and general administrative tasks.

Apply your well-honed IT skills to using online systems for information entry and retrieval.

Bring your attention to detail, professionalism and integrity to ensure that confidentiality is adhered to at all times.

Qualifications and skills (desired/required):

Experience in a reception environment is highly regarded

Administration skills are essential

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Sharepoint

Confident with online systems and software, as well as using printers (specific on the job training will be provided)

Strong verbal and written communication skills

This role will give volunteers an opportunity to continue to develop skills and build experience in reception – specifically dealing with vulnerable community members, as well as administration and the use of computer systems and software. Additionally, there will be access to a range of training opportunities and insight to the work of a large not-for-profit religious organisation with expressions in many different areas of society.
