Miniature Railway (7.25") Leading person.

Our 7 1/4" model railway runs around the museum grounds. It is a single loop with a siding that goes into a storage shed. The railway is open to visitors every day (except Christmas Day) if there is a driver available and if the weather is not too bad: We don't run in the rain! We have 3 locomotives: A Heidi class steam engine, a petrol powered chain-driven engine (most commonly used), and a hydraulic-drive loco currently under reconstruction.

We are looking for a practical person to be the leading person on the railway and have it as their primary focus. Most volunteers can drive the petrol train so the Leading Hand is NOT expected to be here every day! The role might suit a practical person who wants to spend a day a week as part of the museum crew. If that person is willing to help with the 'meet and greet' of visitors that would be even better.

The role would include: Driving when on site - training would be given. Track - keeping the track bed at the right levels and cambers. Rolling stock - ensuring that any repair or maintenance work is carried out. Signs and signaling - etc., Development of the railway's potential - Such as: We need a passing loop, loading ramp (for visiting locos), improved signaling, etc. Promotional projects such as the suggestion that we run a 'dining car' experience on certain days (Eg. Mother's Day) could be developed.

This person would report to the committee (usually via the Secretary).
