Become a Volunteer Biographer with our Life Stories Program

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of people in your community? Are you: • Interested in life stories? • A good listener? • Empathetic and compassionate to others needs? • Comfortable with the written word? • Able to commit to 1 hour per week sessions with clients plus some time transcribing at home?

You may be interested in becoming a Volunteer Biographer. MND Queensland are seeking volunteer biographers for our Life Stories Program. Acceptance into the program is subject to a screening interview, NDIS Worker Screening check and completion of training.

MND Queensland provides support for people with Motor Neurone Disease and their families/carers. MND is a life-limiting disease, and although MND progresses differently for each person, the average life expectancy is 2-3 years. There is currently no cure for MND.

Our mission is to help reduce the impact of motor neurone disease on people living with MND, their families and carers. We do this through providing a range of support services including our new volunteer biography service.

The importance of such a service cannot be underestimated. Our clients find that in a time of uncertainty and end of life, they can find meaning and purpose and control in telling their story and therefore leaving a legacy for their loved ones. As a volunteer biography you become their voice, telling their story.

Please note that due to the challenging but highly rewarding nature of this role, we ask that volunteers commit 6 months or more to this role.

Other requirements: • Access to own car & own computer • Flexible hours • Willingness to learn
