The Duty Officer has the authority to determine what plants to seed, grow and propagate, and oversees the daily needs of the Community Garden in regard to propagation, watering, planting and garden supplies required. The community garden has a large stock of mother plants to utilise in propagation and seeds can be purchased for punnet stock. The Duty Officer supervises other community garden volunteer team members in allocating tasks that need undertaking on a daily basis.

Skills required:

  • A sound knowledge and understanding of gardening essentials including planting and propagation.
  • Good organisational skills in planning and planting needs.
  • A pleasant, non-judgemental and empathetic manner.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with a diverse range of people.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to follow directions from staff.
  • Able to act in a supervisory role with volunteers.
