Role purpose:

To develop a long-term connection with a participant with disability by:

• Becoming a friend and confidante. • Assisting them to identify and reach their goals. • Connecting them to their local community. • Encouraging them speak up about any worries or concerns. • Empowering them to make their own decisions and choices in life.

Role description:

• Meet with your participant on a regular, consistent basis (in person or virtually) - spending a minimum of 5 hours per month undertaking social or recreational activities for a period of 12 months; and attend training and group supervision activities. • Identify and participate in social activities and events with your participant, providing encouragement and non-judgmental support. • Provide advocacy, support and referral as needed.
