Program: Health

The Health team provides comprehensive primary care services together with specialist clinics including psychiatry, pain management, and diabetes management to people seeking asylum. Our clients' complex health needs require multiple consultations across a range of health disciplines. The majority of people accessing our service have no income and are on Visas denying them work rights and Medicare.

Stream: Humanitarian Services

The Humanitarian Services Stream exists to improve the mental, physical, and social well-being of members of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. We safeguard basic human rights for people seeking asylum such as food, security, medical care, and adequate standard of living, whilst promoting dignity, empowerment, and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provision of individual Osteopathy sessions to people seeking asylum.
  • Provision of health promotion, education (individual or group), information, advice, referral, advocacy, and support.
  • Work collaboratively with the ASRC’s other core programs such as client services and legal to ensure best outcomes for members.
  • Manage referrals to other programs within ASRC, as well as to other asylum seeker services and mainstream health services.
  • Ensure information and education are provided in a culturally appropriate way and in the appropriate language.
  • Management of appointments.
  • Maintenance of confidential medical files, including documentation of appropriate clinical notes and handover to other health staff or volunteers.

What we’re looking for

  • Degree in Osteopathy.
  • General AHPRA Registration.
  • Minimum of 12 months of recent experience in a community health setting.
  • Capacity to engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to provide education and advice to clients to enhance their health and well-being.
  • Ability to work autonomously as part of a broader multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work effectively with interpreters.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Professional Indemnity.
