Volunteer Support Coordinator

Darling Downs Environment Council

The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is the peak environment council for the Darling Downs, Southern Downs, Western Downs and Lockyer Valley regions. Established in 2014 it represents and supports local democratic grass roots environmental protection and conservation groups. DDEC is the regional branch of the Queensland Conservation Council, the state’s peak environmental body and is largely funded through a grant administered by the Department of Environment and Science (DES) and auspiced by the Queensland Conservation Council.

Key Duties:

Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding:

  • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies.

  • Conduct interviews and orientations for new volunteers.

  • Maintain volunteer records and databases.

  • Volunteer Training and Development:

  • Coordinate training sessions and workshops for volunteers.

  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers in their roles.

  • Identify opportunities for volunteer skill development and growth.

  • Volunteer Engagement and Retention:

  • Regularly communicate with volunteers to ensure satisfaction and engagement.

  • Organize volunteer appreciation events and recognition programs.

  • Address any concerns or issues raised by volunteers in a timely and effective manner.

  • Collaboration with Staff and Stakeholders:

  • Work closely with organizational staff to align volunteer efforts with organizational goals.

  • Collaborate with other departments or teams to facilitate cross-functional initiatives.

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and supporters.

Administrative and Reporting Tasks:

  • Prepare regular reports on volunteer activities, hours, and impact.
  • Assist with the development and management of the volunteer program budget.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures related to volunteer management.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Organizational and time management abilities.

  • Experience in volunteer management or related fields is preferred.

  • Knowledge of environmental issues and/or passion for conservation is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and volunteer management software/tools.
