This volunteer role would see you visit a female Hindi-speaking resident to engage in one-to-one conversations, engage the resident in unstructured recreational activities and support the resident's participation in group activities.

Providing opportunities for residents to converse in their first language is highly-impactful; during the aging journey people often revert back to their native tongue, making it more difficult for them to communicate and participate in group activities. Having the opportunity to reminisce alongside others with shared language and shared cultural knowledge also provides a significant boost to residents' sense of social connectedness.

Through regular ongoing visits, you will establish wonderful new friendships with residents, as well as the staff and volunteer team. You will be guided in your role by the site's Therapy team, and Bethanie's Volunteer Services team also provide ongoing support.
