Exciting Research Project Opportunity - Patient and Staff Assistant - Allied Health
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Aphasia is a communication impairment that occurs in around 30% of stroke survivors. It impacts a person’s ability to communicate, but not their intelligence.
This research project is aiming to enhance the hospital environment to help patients with aphasia communicate and recover after a stroke.
We need volunteers to attend training to learn how to communicate with people with aphasia and then regularly come and visit our patients for a chat.
This role suits people who:
- are patient and willing to try different ways to communicate with people
- are available to attend a free training session within working hours (approximately 1 hour duration)
- are available from January 2024 to come into Osborne Park Hospital on a Monday and/or Wednesday from 10:00-1400. Potentially extended to Fridays in the future.
- are planning to volunteer a year or longer
