About Volunteering with MiCare: At MiCare we embrace diversity in our staff, carers and all those employed to care for and look after our MiCare clients and residents. Many languages are spoken within the MiCare community, this enables our dedicated staff and volunteers to be able to connect in many languages. MiCare works with the Eden approach to caring and support. The staff pride themselves in learning and applying the Eden way of caring as part of their individualized care to all residents and clients.

MiCare is funded for Government programs that operate within MiCare facilities, private homes, and within other organization/service provider facilities.

We offer the opportunity to connect those wanting to join a caring and supportive organization, to join our team of Volunteers and meet some of our residents and clients.

You will be able to speak with one of the Volunteers team members to discuss your passion and interest and where you see you spending your time. It could be in a facility working with the lifestyle coordinator to join the daily activities, maybe you have a passion to start your own activity and add it to the monthly facility calendar, or you could join the choir, spend one on one time with a resident building a deeper connection.

If you would like to attend a private residence and build a friendship with one of our Elders in their own home, sit and have a cup of tea or coffee, share your stories, share some jokes, read a newspaper together, exchange recipe ideas, watch some interesting movies together.

Whatever area you choose to spend your time volunteering with our residents and clients, your time with them will enrich their daily lives, bringing a smile to their face, new memories to cherish, and your time with them is deeply appreciated and valued.

Some of our residents have no family or friends, either at all or close by, so our MiCare Volunteers are the only visitors they have.

Being a volunteer is rewarding in so many ways. You will meet like-minded people and supported by the Volunteer team staff members throughout your time with MiCare.

About You: We are looking for people who are 18 years and older, who are considering becoming a volunteer.

If you have some free time during your week that you can dedicate to spending time with one of our residents in a facility or clients in their own home, then we would love to hear from you. We all have something that we can offer to someone, our time. You will be open to building new friendships, both with your client, other volunteers, and the staff at MiCare. We would ask that you commit to an hour a week minimum and consider committing to a minimum of 6 months with us at MiCare. Our residents and clients enjoy the regular contact with their new volunteer friend.

Are you a school leaver, university student, parent, retired, working part-time or full-time and are thinking about volunteering, then please get in touch with us to discuss how we could connect you to our residents and clients through the Government programs, to suit your needs as well as the needs of our valued MiCare residents and clients. You will get so much out of spending time with one of our Elders, just as they will with spending time with you. All you need to volunteer is a minimum of 1 hour a week, bring your kindness, compassion, caring nature into the lives of our Elders.

Given covid and restrictions, we need all our staff and volunteers to have the required 3 covid vaccinations and receive the flu vaccination yearly. (if you do not have the current year flu vaccination, please continue with your application and we can discuss this further)

A police check is required, but this will be done upon application, at MiCare’s cost.
