About the Role:

The Host programme aims to provide high quality, professional and individualised support to Aruma customers. It is a community-based respite programme to adults with disabilities, and their families in Victoria.

Host Volunteers provide support and care to customers on a regular basis, such as one weekend per month, one day per fortnight or a few hours each week. Participating in the host programme allows our customers’ social networks, friendships, and experiences, to grow and develop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high-quality support services to customers with disabilities.
  • Promoting community integration and supporting clients in accessing social and recreational activities.
  • Encouraging independence and empowering clients to achieve their personal goals.
  • Advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Providing a duty of care at all times to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the hosted customer.
  • Building trusting relationships by maintaining open communication between the hosted customer, their families/carers, and Aruma employees.
  • Coming to a mutual agreement with the parent/guardian/carer regarding transporting the customer to and from care.

Do I need any qualifications or experience?

You don’t need any disability experience or qualifications to join the Aruma Volunteer team. Our staff will provide you with training and support every step of the way. Some checks that are required before volunteering:

  • Police check (National Police Criminal Record Check – over 18 years of age).
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check – preferred
  • Working with Children check - preferred.
  • Two satisfactory references: one being from an employer or previous employer.
