Tertiary Tips - Support/Advocate

Duties and Key Responsibilities: Assist students with navigating the tertiary institution, assignments or other course tasks, literacy and comprehension.

Skills required: Ability to relate well with participants and other staff, work as part of a team and support tertiary students. An ability to assist and guide where required, reliability as a team member, understanding of the importance of promoting independence and self-esteem with individual participants. NB: Knowledge in the students area of study is not required, they are assisting not teaching.

Expected Personal Aims: To assist the student to reach their learning objectives, to be flexible and open to students learning requirements to the best of your ability, enhance the learning outcomes, skills and confidence of participants by providing a supportive, safe and educational environment. To encourage independence and self-esteem and respect dignity of participants. To be a reliable and responsible member of the team willingly supporting others

Checks/forms required: VRB volunteer Application form completed Confidentiality Agreement signed National CrimCheck completed WWCC NSW/VIC completed Provide 2 referees

Training Requirements: Induction to AWVRB and AWCE and Orientation to the Library and attend volunteer meetings. Gain an understanding of the participant group. Attend relevant training days. Attend in-services as scheduled.
