The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of the City of Boroondara - Active Ageing team.

The Active Ageing Social Support team runs programs to support seniors to reduce social isolation.

These include:

  • Half day outings to morning concerts and lunch
  • Full day outings to a location of interest with lunch
  • Half day program to assist clients to use outdoor exercise equipment
  • Seniors events
  • iPad Clubs

The number of participants range from 6 - 8 seniors from the local area, our bus transports 2 staff and 8 participants. Our Senior participants may range from 70 to 95 years plus of age.

Volunteers are required to: Assist the Social Support Officer who will be driving the bus. To assist the driver you will need to be sufficiently physically agile to:

  • get in and out of the bus at each stop to collect or drop off Social Support participants. Please note that the front passenger bus seat is higher than a standard car or SUV seat
  • open and close the sliding door of the bus and assist each participant in and out of the bus - this includes managing walking aids (walking sticks and wheelie frames only), as required
  • assist participants with donning seatbelts
  • accompany participants in and out of venue whilst Social Support Officer parking or retrieving bus
  • facilitate social interaction with and between participants

Volunteers may have the opportunity to transition into a bus driving role. Bus driving training would be provided and additional checks and requirements will be required.
