The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Balwyn Evergreen Centre.

Balwyn Evergreen Centre has received Australian Government funding to deliver volunteer visitors to seniors in both residential aged care (RACF) and at home (on Home Care Packages) who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation across Eastern Melbourne.

The Aged Care Voluntary Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a wonderful opportunity to help vulnerable members of the community as we know social isolation leads to poor health outcomes. However, it's also about creating genuine connections and friendships between seniors and volunteers.

The role:

  • Spend time (1 hour weekly or at a minimum fortnightly) with a socially isolated senior
  • Visit in their home or in their residential aged care home
  • Be matched with a senior person
  • Have a chat, share a common interest, go for a coffee, or a walk,

About you:

  • Compassionate
  • Interested in people
  • Reliable, honest

Benefits:

  • Make a new friend
  • Build connections and belonging to your community
  • Know you're making a real difference in someone's life as well as your own

Note: The role will be based at a fixed address but involves travel to a home or aged care residence We're actively recruiting volunteers to be part of this rewarding scheme. If you're keen to build a meaningful connection with an older person and can commit to at least one visit a fortnight, please get in touch.
