About us

Founded in 1913, The Royal Historical Society of Queensland is dedicated to promoting Queensland’s history for the benefit of our members, affiliated societies and the broader community.

Your first few months as a volunteer can be considered a trial to determine whether the activities you undertake are mutually beneficial, both to you as the volunteer and to the organisation. On-the-job training is provided for all museum guide volunteers.

For workplace health and safety compliance, volunteers are required to sign on at the beginning of each shift and sign off upon completion of shift. The sign-on sheet is displayed in the Commissariat Store kitchen. If a volunteer is unable to attend a shift, the Manager should be notified as soon as possible.

Volunteers are entitled to lunch breaks and to enjoy refreshments for morning and afternoon tea. At the Commissariat Store, volunteers are welcome to use the kitchen where tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. A refrigerator is available for volunteers wishing to store their lunches.
