Volunteer to change lives. Yours included. The purpose of this volunteer opportunity is to create meaningful and enjoyable external garden activities for residents living in an Aged Care Facility Memory Support Unit.

This will support residents living in an Aged Care Facility Memory Support Unit. Those in frail aged care with memory impairment require meaningful activities to engage in to provide a sensory experience that is pleasurable and beneficial to healthy ageing and well-being. Volunteers will contribute to the well-being of frail aged individuals with memory impairment by creating a sensory-rich space in the external garden.

The herb garden will provide a pleasurable and beneficial experience, promoting healthy aging and overall well-being.  It will enable resources to be gathered for cooking, decorating and sensory experience.  For example, basil for pestos and pizza toppings, edible flowers for table decorations and lavender for foot spas.

Tasks involved include: ▪ Discuss the herb garden with activity officers.  ▪ Select herbs suitably. ▪ Determine options for containers - resources will be provided eg vertical gardens etc . ▪ Place prepared soil suitable for herbs - again resources for soil will be provided just require advice on options to source. ▪ Advise staff on how to care for herbs during the week eg watering and nutrient requirements.

This is a great opportunity to: ▪ Experience the joy of making a meaningful difference ▪ Do something new and different

This role is accessible for people using: ▪ A wheelchair or mobility device ▪ Accessible toilets ▪ An assistance animal

UnitingCare values diversity in our organisation and we have some principles in place that will help to promote both inclusion and access.  If you have any other accessibility requirements, please discuss these at the time of the interview.
