The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of St Mary's House of Welcome (SMHOW).

We are currently looking for kitchen service volunteers to help us serve breakfast and lunch to service users every weekday. We are in particular need for Monday breakfast and lunch sittings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Chef and kitchen staff with various tasks as required including washing, peeling, and / or cutting food in preparation for cooking or serving
  • Follow the direction of the Chef and kitchen staff
  • Follow the kitchen cleaning procedures
  • Prepare tables for service users by cleaning, drying, and setting
  • Follow the Dining Room cleaning procedures
  • Ensure all dishes are washed and dried before shift completion
  • Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment and utensils following lunch service

Skills and attributes required:

  • Must be over 18.
  • Exhibits behaviours that embody the core values, vision, and mission of SMHOW
  • Maintains an open approachable manner and treats others with dignity, respect, and fairness
  • Ability and willingness to learn and accurately follow all relevant processes and procedures
  • Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Demonstrates resilience
  • Demonstrates self-awareness and takes responsibility for own actions and behaviour and how this impacts others
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people from a range of backgrounds and who may be experiencing mental illness
  • Demonstrate empathy towards people who have mental health issues and/or complex needs
  • Ability to recognise the difference between general and confidential information and to respect and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team

Time Commitment:

  • 1 or more shifts per week or be a part of our weekly pool to
  • Monday to Friday Breakfast 8:00am to 10:00 am
  • Monday to Friday Lunch 10:30 to 2:00 pm
