Riding Program Support Person

Horsepower Hills (Swan)

Every child riding with HorsePower Hills requires at least one volunteer to walk alongside them while they learn to ride a horse or pony. This "side walker" also helps with grooming the horse and putting on/off the saddle, bridle etc. Volunteers can teach the child to take care of their own horse, if appropriate. Full training is given on how to maintain the horse or pony and how to assist the child to have fun while learning skills specific to their disability needs. Volunteers with some experience of horses can progress to coaching the riders or to leading/lunging horses.
