The Tramway Museum, St Kilda, SA, is seeking volunteer Gallery Attendants to be the face of the museum in our Entrance Gallery building.

You will be the 'first impression' of the museum, welcoming visitors and processing ticket, kiosk and bookshop sales.

Key duties include:

  • Greeting visitors and introducing them to the Museum.
  • Using a POS to handle and process cash and EFTPOS transactions.
  • Opening/Closing the Gallery by turning on/off lighting, video displays, kiosk fridge.
  • Handling any telephone enquiries.
  • Cleaning display area.

This role is best suited to those who:

  • Are kind and friendly, with good people skills.
  • Have some experience processing cash/EFTPOS transactions.
  • Have availability to volunteer on Sundays and/or Public Holidays.

Complete training provided, no prerequisite experience needed. Trainees are typically invited to attend a day observing a full day of Museum operations to best understand the different role functions and to meet other volunteers. Trainees then spend a few Sundays paired with an existing Gallery Attendant to receive formal training before being certified to undertake full duties.

Volunteers who are interested in training to become a Conductor or Motorman usually commence as Gallery Attendants. Following an appropriate time in which to gain experience and formal recognition, they may progress to Conductor following successful completion of training. For reasons of safety and training accreditation, the position of Motorman requires regular and frequent attendance at both work parties and traffic duties for at least two years.
