Ipswich City Council

Logo for Ipswich City Council

Join us as a volunteer at the Queens Park Environmental Education Centre where you can share your passion for the Environment and Ipswich with others. In this role you will greet and interact with visitors to the centre providing information and education on Ipswich's natural environment and helping educate visitors on how they can help care for the environment.

You will also have the opportunity to help design, set up and run displays and activities in the centre.

A large portion of our visitors to the centre are school groups or families with young children so we require that all volunteers in this role hold a current Working with Children Blue Card before starting. Council can assist you to obtain a blue card if you don't have one.

Interested volunteers ideally will be:

  • Passionate about caring for the environment

  • Knowledgeable about Ipswich and it's natural areas or willing to learn (able to be supported with training)

  • Happy to talk to people and able to communicate clearly with members of the public, including children

  • Experienced in customer service, education, working with children or have a background in environmental studies (desirable but not essential)

  • Able to commit to a weekly shift in the centre for a minimum commitment of 6 months.

Shift times: We currently have shifts available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Volunteer shift times are 9am - 2pm. This availability does change so please note your availability when applying

Pre-requisites: Volunteers in this role are required to hold a current blue card. Council can assist with getting this if not already held.
