The Boroondara Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Avalon Centre.

The Homes for The Homeless programme initiative was set up 5years ago to provide affordable housing for the homeless. Based on the Housing first model, our goal is to offer a home first then provide ongoing tailored support. Our aim is to provide stability, support and security to empower people to take control of their own lives. So far, we have 12 homes, consisting of flats in Dandenong. There are a variety of people in our homes including single mothers with 2-3 children, a young couple, a single man.

Each house will have a supporter whose role involves developing a trusting relationship with the renters involved and offering support where needed. This may include help with budgeting, cooking, job searching, shopping and much more. (accessed through the wider Avalon Network.)

This role would suit someone who has experience with people who are experiencing challenges in their life, or has 'lived' experience.  Also, for someone who has a desire to support and make a difference to someone who is trying to get back on their feet and regain control of their lives.  Please note that we do not require experienced 'counsellors' etc. just people who care and want to make a difference.

If you feel that you have the skills/life experience to support someone who is trying to get their lives back on track and who has experienced homelessness we would welcome the opportunity to discuss the role further with you.
