We are seeking volunteers to join our Wellbeing Team. As part of this team you will be responsible for assisting staff in the provision of group and individual garden-based (horticultural therapy) activities to meet the special needs of residents.

Gardening activities include: plant propagation, potting, planting, weeding, pruning, harvesting, garden planning/reminiscence, floral work, sensory appreciation of plants and flowers, worm farms– indeed anything which may interest and stimulate residents who wish to continue to pursue the therapeutic connection between people and plants.

The aims of gardening programs are:

  • To provide opportunity for residents to be responsible for the wellbeing of another life
  • To maintain lifelong connection with earth, seasons, sunlight (spiritual or practical)
  • To promote self esteem, purpose, productivity and a sense of pride
  • To maintain the use of fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
  • To provide sensory stimulation and fun
