Logo for Still Gardening Program (City of Hobart)

As a Garden Mate you will work with a senior person for one or two hours a week in their garden.

Volunteers and clients work side-by-side, enjoying the benefits of companionship, gentle exercise, stimulation and sunshine. The program is a life-changing service for clients. It helps them to find optimism, stay fit and stay in their own homes. Gardening is an important way for senior people to keep fit and strong enough to stay living in their own homes.

Your role will be to help your senior garden mate with weeding, planting, digging, pruning and general garden maintenance jobs.

By working with a senior person you will help them to feel safe and confident to get outside. You will also be a friendly face with whom they can chat and share their passion for the garden.

We will offer you basic tools and training. Sometimes we run gardening workshops and info sessions for our volunteers. We have an optional monthly catch up for our volunteers. We will reimburse you for your travel costs and keep you insured. We provide you with First Aid training.
