Established in the Northern Territory in 1988, Neighbourhood Watch has proved to be the most effective community-based, crime prevention program available. The ultimate success of Neighbourhood Watch depends on a partnership approach between the community and the police. Neighbourhood Watch NT manages and provides strategic leadership for the Northern Territory Neighbourhood Watch programs and formulates strategies & policies, in order to achieve the following objectives: ~ Contribute to the minimisation of the incidence of preventable crime ~ Expand Neighbourhood Watch's involvement in wider community safety and crime prevention initiatives ~ Reduce the fear of crime ~ Deter criminal activity by increasing the probability of apprehension ~ Increase the reporting of crime and suspicious activity ~ Improve the degree of personal and household security through education programs ~ Raise awareness of crime prevention strategies and resources ~ Promote active involvement in community safety and crime prevention
