''Family rooms are areas in the hospital where families can go while children are being treated,'' he said. ''Instead of sitting in a cafeteria for up to eight hours they can be in a place that is a bit more home-like. ''The idea is we get parents out of chairs next to their child's bed so they can sleep in a bed but still be only a call away from being back with their child.'' Mr Dessaix said one facility would be near the neo-natal intensive care unit with bedrooms and a second facility would be on a lower level of the hospital for day stays with no bedrooms. He said both would have a lounge, kitchen and shower.
