Sock it to Sarcoma!

Sock it to Sarcoma! is a health promotion charity based in Western Australia. First set up in 2012, it was the vision of young Perth woman Abbie Basson following her own diagnosis of Ewing’s Sarcoma. Sarcoma is a rare, aggressive group of cancers found in the bones and soft tissue and over-represented in young people. She found that sarcoma was vastly under-funded in research funding for new and less toxic treatments, overall survival was lower than for common cancers particularly for children, adolescents and young adults and she set out to change this. The Foundation supports medical research into sarcoma, working with local medical research institutions and universities via PhD top-up scholarships and project grants; promotes education programs and awareness activities in industry and the community about sarcoma and advocates for and provides holistic support to people diagnosed with sarcoma and their families. Our Foundation achieves all this through one part-time employee supported by wonderful volunteer
