The Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages (VACL) was established in 1994. VACL is the peak body for Aboriginal Languages revitalization in the state of Victoria, leaders in the field of Language Revitalization, Language Reclamation, Resource Development, Research, and the archival, development, Aboriginal Language Library and Aboriginal languages Advocacy. We continue to further our work accross multi-institutional collaborations serving our core aim of Language revitalization and continuation of First Peoples’ Culture. We work with forty-four Language Groups in the state of Victoria, numerous Clan Languages within the State and accross the borders of South Australia and New South Wales. VACL operates under First Peoples community protocols where any person is respected, supported, valued and their identity is not overridden by manstream assumptions. We are keen and open to participatory engagement with people and we expect reciprocity by honouring our Elders past, present and emerging.
