The Queensland Cruising Yacht Club was founded in 1948 with the main goal of conducting the first ever Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. The Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, first sailed in 1949 has become an officially recognised icon of Queensland and Australia's second most prominent Ocean Yacht Race. Along with this race QCYC conducts a full range of sailing yacht races throughout the year, and conducts training of sailors to gain more experience. The Club is always on the lookout for suitably qualified volunteers to fit in with a range of activities in the staging of yacht races.
