The Big Umbrella (TBU) is a 100% volunteer-run organisation that rescues surplus food to create meals for vulnerable Australians experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. 100% run by volunteers 100% love driven, we serve over 500 hot, healthy and nutritious meals each week for our friends on the street, supported by a countless number of kind and compassionate volunteers and corporate partners. Located in Brunswick, MG's kitchen, a 100sqm custom-built commercial kitchen opened in April 2021 in the middle of the pandemic in response to the huge rise in demand for our food relief services. TBU welcomes volunteers and corporate groups into an inclusive and dynamic environment each week to spend time helping others less fortunate. Guided by trained Chefs, the group produce hundreds of restaurant quality meals bound for our Fed Square pop-up restaurant and free grocery store. Running for over 12 years, TBU is filled with love and care for people experiencing food insecurity. TBU creates a safe and inclusive space where people can come together in the community to share, grow and support each other.
